چکیده

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to perform the first femtosecond laser cuts with a new prototype femtosecond laser, in vivo and to evaluate its safety, stability and efficacy. METHODS A LASIK cut was performed with a prototype 200 kHz femtosecond laser in both eyes of nine patients and one eye of two patients (20 individual eyes in total). A complete ophthalmic examination was performed preoperatively and postoperatively at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after the procedure. RESULTS In the pilot series of 20 eyes, flap creation was possible in each case. The mean preoperative manifest refractive spherical equivalent was À-4.22 D (SD ± 61.22 D). The postoperative spherical equivalent refraction was À-0.1 D (SD ± 60.26 D) at 1 month, À-0.22 D (SD ± 60.24 D) at 3 months and À-0.15 D (SD ± 60.16 D) 12 months after surgery. CONCLUSIONS Femto-LASIK with this new laser system showed high levels of safety, stability and efficacy without any enhancement. CLINICAL TRIALS REGISTRATION http://www.dimdi.de. Comparison of self-reported quality of vision outcomes after myopic LASIK with two femtosecond lasers: a prospective, eye-to-eye study

PURPOSE To compare self-reported quality of vision (QoV) outcomes after myopic LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) with two femtosecond lasers. DESIGN Prospective, randomized, eye-to-eye study. METHODS Consecutive myopic patients were treated with wavefront-guided LASIK bilaterally. Eyes were randomized according to ocular dominance. The flap of one eye was made with the IntraLase...

Simulation of the temperature increase in human cadaver retina during direct illumination by 150-kHz femtosecond laser pulses.

We have developed a two-dimensional computer model to predict the temperature increase of the retina during femtosecond corneal laser flap cutting. Simulating a typical clinical setting for 150-kHz iFS advanced femtosecond laser (0.8- to 1-μJ laser pulse energy and 15-s procedure time at a laser wavelength of 1053 nm), the temperature increase is 0.2°C. Calculated temperature profiles show good...

Transient light-sensitivity syndrome after laser in situ keratomileusis with the femtosecond laser Incidence and prevention.

PURPOSE To describe the incidence of transient light-sensitivity syndrome (TLSS) after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) with the femtosecond laser and to identify preventive strategies. SETTING Hospital NISA Virgen del Consuelo, Valencia, Spain. METHODS The first 765 eyes operated on with the 15 KHz femtosecond laser were prospectively analyzed for subjective complaints and clinical fin...

Femtosecond micro- and nano-machining of materials for microfluidic applications

Ultrafast laser micromachining is a promising candidate for microand nano-fabrication technology. Due to the high precision of femtosecond ablation, laser-machined features can be added to devices prototyped by lithography. To accomplish that, parametric studies of laser interrogation of materials of interest are necessary. We present femtosecond laser ablation studies of glass, PDMS, fused sil...

Unilateral rainbow glare after uncomplicated femto-LASIK using the FS-200 femtosecond laser.

PURPOSE To report a case of rainbow glare following femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (femto-LASIK) with the Wavelight FS-200 femtosecond laser (Alcon Laboratories, Inc., Fort Worth, TX). METHODS A patient was treated bilaterally for myopia with femto-LASIK using the FS-200 femtosecond laser. Postoperatively, he complained of rainbow glare in his right eye. RESULTS Three months postoperative...
